Days Beyond The Degree - Medical Research Degree
Medical and health research is a fast growing industry, offering a lot of opportunities and scope in the educational sector. Lots of students today are opting for a course in medical research mainly due to the interest they have in the subject. So what are the degrees you need to get into this field of research and development?
A bachelor's degree, in any of the following: Biotechnology, Bio Medical or Bio chemistry. You may also obtain a bachelor of science in biology. This is just the first step towards the goal of becoming a medical researcher. Before you obtain your bachelor's degree you need to be consistent in your academics and maintain a high level of discipline.
A Bachelor's degree in any one of the above departments is to be followed by a Master's degree in the specific department. Alternatively you may obtain a doctorate by completing your PhD. While doing your post graduation take the research related electives which will help in the course of your career.

Countries like USA and Canada offer specialised degrees dedicated to research in the medical fields after both graduation and post graduation levels. Some examples of such specialised degrees are Master of Philosophy, where you are trained in completion of research related thesis. This degree is basically for those who have completed their graduation and are interested in PhD related courses.
Master of research is another prestigious degree offered in most of the western countries. During the course of this degree the universities train you in research in medical and other fields but you can take the core field of your interest. The universities offer world class research facilities and encourage students to be innovative and think out of the box, which is a very important part in grooming of a young researcher.
Another interesting Post graduate degree offered in the medical research field is the Master of letters symbolised as MLitt(R). The degree provides opportunities to students who could not complete their doctorate, to write their research papers and publish it.
There are also degrees in parts of the world which train you in the lab and also in programming your mind to gather your thoughts and ideas by way of a meditation therapy. Although these are not degrees in specific, these additional courses do take up important space in your resume and increase your chances of becoming a qualified researcher.
Degrees and marks are not all it takes to become a medical researcher. You may need to spend hours in the laboratory testing specimen, conducting experiments and even taking risks to achieve a scientific break-through. It is difficult to get recognised in this field unless you do something extra-ordinary. Yet a historic medical invention today will be history tomorrow. A medical researcher will never have time to relax. You need to keep researching and keep improving.
Medical researching has led to the invention of vaccines against fatal diseases like Measles and anthrax, which was a major cause of concern for the WHO during the early 1900. Today, WHO funds dedicated research laboratories and identifies researchers who have contributed to the world. Medical Research and development, as a profession is going places !
