Working For The Wrong Cause - Corrupted Medical Research
Corruption is a social evil, which one can see almost everywhere. Medical science cannot be left far behind in the corruption activities. People use the research industry in the wrong way just for making some money. What they do not realise, is the number of lives at stake.
The primary reason for corruption in the research field is because of its fast moving nature. In order to stay in business drug developers, for example create a new drug to enhance the recovery time from a particular disease. This is fine, but for the fact that they sometimes tend to ignore the possibility of side effects accompanying the recovery process which could prove fatal. Researchers here do not care about their product, but for the money they get for creating the 'Wonder drug'.

You might be wondering what, I mean by 'Wonder drug'. The fact remains that normal people, do not understand the complicated words and terms used in the medical field. When the developers of the drug claim it to be a wonder drug showing only the positives, people obviously believe it.
The researchers normally never worry about the cause of the disease whose specimen they are researching. They rather go into a deep study on the preventive measures to curb the spreading of the disease. Why not curb the cause of the disease which is the root problem? The reason is simple enough. Preventive measures require a good research team, firstly providing a job to the researchers. Secondly a lot of money goes into the research which is obtained by the help of sponsors and donations from the public. Most of the donations obtained here somehow find their way into the pockets of the researchers or the distributors. The public, have to pay a huge sum to obtain the drug which again becomes profitable to the researchers.
Another form of corruption is in the form of peer reviews of medical research. The final outcomes of most researches are reviewed by a group of peer's who are highly qualified medical researchers. They claim this procedure as a process to test the authenticity of the drug. The problem here is that, sometimes the peers go along with the research without actually testing it themselves. They do this to keep the research industry strong and keep in the flow of money. There is also a common fear that providing a bad review might result in a bad review for your drug too.
There is also a case of falsely published research papers. There are some publishers who publish researches in their journals or magazines without scrutinising the identity of the researcher. Unqualified people may sometimes write a research for the purpose of making money. If the publishing agency finds it interesting enough to attract readers, they publish it without checking the personal details of the claimed researcher. This could result in wrong information being conveyed to the general public, which is highly dangerous.
Corruption in the medical field is not a purposeful offence. It sometimes is a result of some irresponsible and money hungry people. Although corruption is in a small scale, the value of lives at stake here is priceless.
